Who We Are

WYRA is a very unique program. Most crews we race against are school programs, but WYRA is a composite program made up of public, private, parochial and home schooled kids from Delaware, Southeastern Pennsylvania, Northeastern Maryland and Southern New Jersey.

WYRA’s mission statement is to promote physical, mental, and social wellness in young people of all backgrounds, using the sport of rowing and related educational programs to instill essential lifelong values including responsibility, self-discipline, teamwork, leadership, commitment, and the pursuit of excellence.

The money raised from the Head of the Christina goes right back into WYRA to help continue teaching area youth the fine sport of rowing.

Current News

It is with a sad heart that we are cancelling the Head of the Christina for this Sunday. Rain, high winds and an unusually high tide predicted for this weekend led us to make this decision. Yesterday we received a call from the Wilm. Marine Police telling us that, in view of the weather, they were taking their boats out of the water until Monday. This meant that we would not have emergency service if an accident occurred on the water. Later, in talks with RDC, we were told that the Riverfront Taxi which serves as our starter/timing platform could not handle anticipated heavy winds and turbulent water and would not be available. With all of that in mind, in addition to many other factors, we decided to cancel the regatta.

Refunds will be issued through Regatta Central. We hope to see you next year, Oct 2, 2016, for the next Head of the Christina
